attached to the 60th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. After discharge, he
became employed with the Naval Aviation Depot, Cherry Point, NC. In a very
short time he was promoted to head the aircraft wiring verification and
cable manufacturing department. In this capacity, he completely revolutionized
aircraft wiring harness manufacturing. This department became known throughout
the Department of Defense as the technological leader in aircraft wiring.
Curtis was responsible for 1) installing the first non-contact ink jet
wire identification machine, 2) CAD department for full scale manufacturing
drawings and instructions downloaded to PC's on workbenches, 3) backwired
form boards, 4) universal form boards, 5) creating a Paperless Factory
Environment (PFC), 6) automatic crimpers and strippers and 7) streamlining
work flow to eliminate production bottle necks.
He has served on several boards such as Society of Aerospace Engineering
(SAE) and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) and
was responsible for analyzing wiring problems associated to various aircraft.
Becoming a part of the Naval Aerospace Vehicle Wiring Action Group, he
served as chairman of the Technology Exploration Advancement Manufacturing
group.
After retirement from Department of Defense, he visited numerous Department
of Defense and Commercial wiring facilities through the country. He continued
to see the need for quality wire identification that would not cause degradation
to the insulation of the conductor.
He has now designed and manufactured an affordable non-contact ink jet
wire-marking machine.
